More about The Cape Town City Tour.
Culturally rich, interesting architecture, deep history, warm friendly people and amazing vistas, this is Cape Town and you shouldn’t miss out on a private city tour.
Time and time again Cape Town makes its mark in the media by winning numerous awards as a top world destination and rightly so. Cape Town really has something special, nestled between rugged mountains and surrounded on three sides by the majestic Atlantic Ocean. With her beautiful beaches and fine restaurants, Cape Town is the one destination that you don’t want to miss out on. There are many city tours on the market and they are mostly half day tours. We recommend a full day private tour with us to truly enjoy and get a good sense of the city.
There are so many different places to see and things to do in the city and this is where your experienced private Cape Town tour guide is equipped to be at your service. Whether you are looking for the best sunset photo off the top of Table Mountain, a historical artefact or the best cup of coffee in the city, we will make it possible. Typically we start the city tour with a panoramic view across the region. This can either be from Signal Hill (300 meters above the city) or from the top of Table Mountain which is of course weather permitting. Should the weather be suitable, there is no better way to experience the vistas of the Cape than from 1063 meters above sea level, right on top of the world landmark, Table Mountain. The trip up the modern Swiss engineered cable car is simply breathtaking and is a highlight of the city tour. If the weather prevents us from ascending, your guide will endeavour to fit this element in on one of your other day tours as soon as the weather improves.
Now that you are orientated we make our way around the city taking in all the main highlights and places of interest including the City Hall, Parliament, Castle of Good Hope, District Six, Bo-Kaap, etc. We also recommend some walking in the city if you are able to; your tour guide will take you on a guided walk through the Company Gardens, a botanical paradise right in the middle of the city, you will pass by the parliament buildings and National Library and on down St George’s Street to Greenmarket Square. Shoppers may want to spend some time here before we continue.
For the historically minded, there are also some very interesting museums in the city. A very popular and informative excursion to undertake is a trip to the prison museum on Robben Island, we can easily incorporate this into your city tour. If you have any Jewish ancestry, then the Jewish Museum is a must. For information about Apartheid, we recommend the Slave Museum and the District Six Museum. Other museums of interest include the Gold Museum, the Castle of Good Hope and the South African Museum.
If art is your passion, there are several ‘boutique’ art galleries across town and the South African Art Gallery is well worth a visit, once again your Cape Town tour guide will assist you to find what you are looking for. Ladies, of course you would like to do some shopping, whether it be for ostrich and crocodile leather shoes or purses or a big diamond ring, your tour guide will help you find the shops you are looking for.
The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is the main entertainment area in Cape Town, it consists of a large modern shopping centre and several restaurants and pubs that line the old wharf. We will orientate you around the area and recommend or book a restaurant should you want to spend some time here in the evening. If you are travelling with children, then we like to adapt the tour and make it interesting for them too, at the Waterfront we can visit the World Class Two Oceans Aquarium where sharks, penguins and giant crabs can be seen and Scratch Patch where the kids can search for their own semiprecious stones.
We highly recommend that you book a private city tour with one of our experienced Cape Town tour guides.
