Completed in 1922, this historical road has long captivated drivers, cyclists and runners and is a major attraction in the annual Cape Town Cycle Tour and Two Oceans Marathon. 

 

Named after John Chapman, the pilot of an English vessel that found itself in the relatively sheltered bay on a calm day in 1607. Chapman rowed ashore to collect supplies from the forest and named the bay; Chapman's Chance.
