The Garden Route is a multiple day tour along South Africa’s Southern Coast. The region is commonly referred to as the Garden Route as it is one of the lushest parts of the country and makes for a perfect extension tour out of Cape Town.
Highlights along the Garden Route include visits to Oudshoorn, the famed Cango Caves, Ostrich Farms, Knysna town and lagoon (voted as the country’s favourite holiday town), Plettenberg Bay with its exquisite unspoilt beaches and the indigenous forests of Tsitsikamma.
Day 1, we depart from Cape Town and travel to Oudtshoorn via route 66 through the mountainous Little Karoo where you will be in awe at the geological fold mountain formations. In Oudshoorn we visit an ostrich farm where if you like, you can have your hand at riding an ostrich!
Day2, before leaving Oudshoorn, we make our way to The Cango Caves where we explore some of the world’s most impressive caves, the first set of large chambers extends into the Swartberg Mounatins for almost one kilometer. We then travel over the Qutenique Mountains towards Knysna where the cool Indian Ocean breeze waits our arrival. We end the day with a cruise on the Knysna Lagoon. From your boat you will see the famous Knysna Heads, two imposing rock outcrops, which guard the entrance to the lagoon like two sentinels.
Day 3, Today we head over to the Featherbed Nature Reserve, we will visit one of South Africa’s most impressive coastal formations as we explore the western headland from within the nature reserve. Watch out for the Knysna Loerie and the smallest of the African antelope.
Day 4, Today we visit the Tsitsikamma Forest, renowned for its indigenous hardwood trees which were once harvested and exported to make high quality furniture. We visit the Storms River mouth and admire the magnificent panorama created there. Explore the natural beauty of the protected indigenous forest area which meets a protected stretch of coastline.
This tour can terminate at a local airport (George or Port Elizabeth) or the client can return overland to Cape Town.
